The Tara massif is located in the western part of Serbia, in the border zone towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, or Republika Srpska. From the south and southeast, Tara is bordered by the Kamišna River and Kremna basin, relying on Zlatibor and Mokra Gora. To the east it rests on the branches of Ponikve and Stapar. To the northeast it is bounded by the Pilica River. To the north, the Tara massif is bordered by the Drina River Canyon, to the northwest by the Derventa River, and to the west by the White Rzav River. The surface of the Tara Mountains is 183 km2 and the altitude is 1000m to 1200m. The highest peak of Tara is Zborište with an altitude of 1544 m.

The most famous tourist sites on the Tara Mountain are Kaluđerske Bare, Mitrovac, Zaovine with their lakes, Šljivovica, Sokolina, Predov Krst and a beautiful lookout on it. On the most beautiful Tara Mountain you can surely choose the right accommodation for your ideal nature vacation. The tourist offer includes beautiful cottages, apartments and hotels. In the wider area of Tara Mountain there are many natural and cultural attractions, city and tourist centers, such as Bajina Bašta, Zlatibor or Višegrad, and at the bottom of Tara is the 13th century Rača Monastery, the center of cultural and spiritual heritage of this region. The well-known trademark of the Drina and Bajina Bašta is the famous Rock cottage.

Tara is a space of pure and untouched nature. Due to its favorable climatic and geological factors, it has an extremely positive role in the life and health of plants, animals and humans. Air, with its quality and purity, is an invaluable value and a true oasis of health. Mount Tara, with the richness of its flora and fauna, is a treasure trove of present and, in other places, long-extinct life treasures. It is here that the famous Pančić Omorika grows, a relic and endemic that has been left behind since prehistoric times and survived only in these areas. Omorika was discovered by the great scientist Josif Pančić, after whom this "new conifer fela" was later named "Pančić Omorika".

A combination of exceptional natural conditions and unique ambience, Tara Mountain is a rare tourist asset and an ideal place for rest and recreation for both top athletes and mountaineers, as well as for recreational and nature lovers. Thanks to the ideal natural conditions and considerable accommodation capacities, both hotel and rural-apartment, it provides exceptional tourism opportunities all 365 days during the year.

They say that those who visit Tara once tend to keep coming again and again. People seem to be captivated by the surroundings with typical regional features and yet so specific that it cannot be compared to any other mountain in Serbia.

"I imagine paradise like this," said the director of the European Federation for Nature Conservation and National Parks, Mr. Atkin Clark, when visiting Mount Tara, and one Slavic legend says that because of its many and unique natural beauties, Tara was chosen by the good god Tar to live his divine life on it, and by which this mountain was named.
Being rich in natural and tourist attractions within its massif, both on the hillsides and in the immediate vicinity, Tara fully justifies the epithet of the most beautiful mountains not only of the hilly Balkans, but of the European continent in general.
In the outskirts of the Tara Mountains there are inevitable tourist attractions: Zlatibor, as well as the railway museum "Šarganska osmica", the ethno village Mećavnik (Drvengrad) and the far-famed Kremna, which touches Zlatibor and Tara Mountain. Zlatibor is a mountain of exceptional beauty, vast meadows, lush pastures, abundant in covered plateaus intersected with numerous rivers and mountain streams. Zlatibor is the most visited mountain tourist place in Serbia. It is located at 1000 m above sea level and is an air spa - in summer an oasis of peace and in winter a ski center. Tara is an ideal place where everyone would like their own personal holiday corner.
The Šargan Eight is a unique masterpiece of world construction. In a relatively small area and inaccessible rocky terrain, a large altitude difference was overcome by a railway that circulates through Mokra Gora and Šargan, through a system of tunnels and bridges, making the shape of the number "8" after which it was named. This narrow gauge railway once connected Belgrade and Sarajevo, and today it has been rebuilt on the route from Višegrad, across Mokra gora up to Kremna and serves for tourist purposes. Kremna is the birthplace of the famous prophets of Tarabić, and in which you can get to know the landscapes where the famous Kremna Prophecy came into being.
Ethno village Mećavnik (Drvengrad) is one of the tourist pearls of this region. The houses and buildings on Mećavnik are mostly newly constructed copies of authentic sculptures from this area. Some of them are even original, with much attention disassembled and transferred from the nearby mountain slopes, and then reassembled in Mestavnik.
The Drina River, the pearl at the foot of the Tara Mountains, with a picturesque natural setting (canyon, lakes, springs and springs), is a unique natural attraction and a significant point on the tourist map of the Tara Mountain. In the peripheral parts of the Tara Mountain, in addition to smaller lakes, numerous mountain streams, waterfalls and rapids of crystal clearness, there are two, by their beauty, far-famed lakes: Perućac Lake on the Drina and Zaovinsko jezero. On Tara and Drina you can see the most beautiful pictures of untouched nature.
